Mr. Fereydoun Firouz is President & CEO, EMD Serono, Inc. and Head of the Global Business Unit Fertility and Endocrinology
for the division worldwide. In this capacity, his responsibilities include driving the strategic direction of the US organization
as well as managing the day-to-day. He is a member of the Executive Management Board of Merck Serono in Geneva.
Career History
Previously, Mr. Firouz was Executive Vice President, Reproductive Health North America where he was responsible for re-engineering
the sales, marketing and medical/regulatory organization for the company's US reproductive health business. From 1998 to 2001,
Mr. Firouz was Vice President, Latin America for Serono S.A. where he directed all operational activities crossfunctionally
and oversaw the successful launches of a variety of products.
Prior to his tenure in Latin America, Mr. Firouz held positions of increasing responsibility in Serono's IBO region as Director
and ultimately Vice President. He was instrumental in creating new operating entities in Greece, Turkey, Israel, Central Europe,
and the Middle East. Mr. Firouz began his career at Serono in 1989 as a Government Affairs Associate in the company's Washington,
DC office.
Recognition
Mr. Firouz was honored with MBC's Innovative Leadership Award in 2009, which recognizes a senior life sciences executive who
demonstrates leadership related to issues of patient advocacy, corporate social responsibility and contribution to the public
policy dialogue.
Under his leadership, EMD Serono has been the recipient of
numerous corporate awards including, most recently, the Boston Business Journal's Corporate Philanthropy Award given to companies in the Boston area
with exceptional charitable programs.
Memberships
Mr. Firouz is an active participant and Board member of the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America (PhRMA),
the Biotechnology Industry Organization (BIO), and the Massachusetts Biotech Council (MBC). Additionally, he was recently
appointed Board Member at the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library Foundation.
