Dr. Steve Arkinstall is Senior Vice President of Global Technologies and Site Head for US-based Research Operations.
Career History
Dr. Arkinstall began his career with the company in 1998 in Geneva. In 1999, he moved to Boston, Massachusetts, where he took
over as head of the US research facility. He reshaped this site to focus on basic mechanisms underlying fertility and reproductive
function. In 2005, Dr. Arkinstall directed an expansion of US research activities and a major drive into oncology drug discovery.
Following the formation of EMD Serono in 2007 he took over as Global Head of Technologies, partnering with the company's therapeutic
area disease functions to underpin new chemistry and biologic based drug discovery, as well as managing the company's US research
operations based in Massachusetts. In 2009, Steve also assumed responsibilities for chemisty supporting discovery and development
of small molecule oral drugs within our global R&D organization.

EDUCATION
Dr. Arkinstall received his D. Phil degree (Ph.D) at the University of Oxford in the UK. After completing his postdoc in 1989,
Dr. Arkinstall moved from Oxford to join the prestigious Glaxo Institute for Molecular Biology in Geneva, Switzerland. It
was here that Dr. Arkinstall continued his research activities in the field of cell surface receptors and signal transduction
and also became heavily involved in drug discovery.
